MISSION STATEMENT:
The Nashville Black Business Expo is an organization
created to provide the Nashville African American
business community with a medium to expose their
products and services, network with other businessmen
and build economic wealth in the community.
PURPOSE:
To be an effective voice and vehicle for the
social and economic advancement of African-Americans
and to celebrate the African American culture
in Nashville.
The Nashville Black Business expo team is comprised
of:
Shawntaz Crawford – Executive Director
Shawntaz Crawford is a native
of Atlanta, Georgia. He was educated at Tennessee
State University where he received a Bachelor
of Science degree in Art with a minor in English.
While at Tennessee State University he was the
President of the Student Government Association,
President of the College Democrats and President
of the Collegiate 100 Black Men. He was one of
61 students selected by the President of the University,
Dr. James Hefner, to be considered “Who’s
Who among College Students”. He has also
studied and taught graphic design, digital media
and marketing at the Rochester Institute of Technology
in Rochester, New York. In addition to his academic
success, Mr. Crawford has developed many successful
marketing campaigns and promotional strategies
for various clients in the surrounding Nashville
area.
Nubian Simmons – Sponsor Account Manager
Nubian Simmons is a native of
Milwaukee, WI. She graduated from Tennessee State
University in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree
in Elementary Education. While at Tennessee State,
she was very involved in student affairs planning
many of the universities major events including
the Miss Tennessee State University Pageant and
the Mr. Tennessee State University Pageant. She
was also responsible for changing the university’s
undergraduate voting procedures increasing voter
turnout and awareness. At 21 she started The Evolution
Creative Group, a business designed to provide
creative marketing solutions to Nashville businesses.
She is also the co-founder of evoconnect.com,
a website developed for college students to lower
the price of campus textbooks in the Nashville
collegiate community. Ms. Simmons is currently
a graduate student at Tennessee State pursuing
a master’s degree in business administration.
Sharica Smallwood – Public Relations Director
Sharica Smallwood is a native
of Detroit, MI. She graduated from Tennessee State
University in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree
in Speech and Theatre Communication. While at
Tennessee State University, she served at Manager
of Operations for the national awarding winning
WTST Radio Station. She also serves as mistress
of ceremonies for many concerts and events at
Tennessee State University. Ms. Smallwood is link
to the success of many events throughout the Nashville
community such as 1st Friday’s, Hands On
Nashville Day, Middle Tennessee’s Mary Catherine
Strobel Volunteer Recognition Awards, and most
recently Cocktails @ Sunset, a fundraiser benefiting
Hands On Nashville. Ms. Smallwood is currently
a graduate student at Tennessee State pursing
a master’s degree in English.
